CORPSE Interveiw (USA, Death Metal)

Well, here we go with one of the most important returns in Death Metal music, here we have a little interview with the drummer Jeff Hoskins, enjoy it!

1- Well, as Death Metal band, what made you move to play this music, in the early 90’s?

When I first heard Death Metal from Eric Massie, I was hooked! I already loved metal and thrash (so did the other guys) and this blew me away. I called Joe Cox, who was living hours away at the time, and mentioned to him about starting a Christian death metal band since we were Believers. He agreed and so we did it.

2- How long took to record the very first demos?

Our first demo we made within a few months of forming with only a few songs. We recorded and mixed in less than 2 hours.

3- Can you explain to us the title of each album (from the first to the latest one)?

The first demo was sef titled. You Must Die was recorded next to emphasize the importance of dying to sinful deads and being alive in Christ. We broke up, reformed with other members and released For President. No spiritual meaning, just liked the title. We made a 3 song for Cling Records without a title. From The Grave was our first full length in 1997 showing that we were back and believers will rise from the dead one day. We disbanded and recently returned and released Among The Dead on Martyrdom Records. It is about becoming Born Again and realizing you’re among the dead (lost people without Christ).

4- Why, after 14 years, did you decide to join together and record a new album?

We always loved music, but with family, band members moving away and other responsibilities, we just stopped. Joe and I always talked about doing music again and when he moved back to Kentucky, it gave us a chance to do what we loved again. We love music but love GOD more and want HIM to use us. GOD seemed to bring it together at the right time.

5- How did you feel, all of you recording a new album?

We felt extremely excited but nervous after all the years away from extreme metal. Even though there are things to improve, we are happy with it. We want to have our own sound and I think that was accomplished.

6- I know in all the members is different, but can you describe to us how do you feel that God move in the band?

GOD used us in the past to spread HIS Word at shows with some salvations. I feel HE uses us to minister to people and believers to encourage and even uplift the death metal/extreme metal fans

7- Besides Death Metal music, do you think that God can move in other music stiles?

For sure! GOD can move in any style, even styles we can’t stand . His body is diverse and He uses diverse styles.

8- What does mean “Corpse” to you?

Corpse is about being dead to our old sinful self and having a new life hidden in Christ in GOD(Colossians 3:3). Corpse is about proclaiming new life to the lost and giving music and a message to help others and Glorify GOD.

9- To all people who is reading this, what you would like to tell them?

GOD has appointed us once to die and then to judgement. You don’t know when your last breath will be, so please consider the claims of CHRIST as Savior and LORD. The LORD calls us to be faithful, not successful (heard that in Church today), so put CHRIST first and HE will direct you.

10- How did you feel when James “Eric” Massie past away?

We are very sad at Eric Massie’s death, but look forward to seeing him again. I am grieved about what happened and hope I will be open to GOD if I see someone in depression and try to get them help. Eric has a beautiful little girl who is going to church and Christian school, and GOD can work through her. GOD bless his family! GOD bless you guys!
